HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – A dog tied up outside of a store in Highland Park was waiting for its owner when a gunman shot him in the leg Thursday night.

His name is “Dollar Bill.” He is well-known in Highland Park and was faithfully waiting for his owner outside of a market on Geneva Avenue when people heard a gunshot.

The gunman told the owner, “I just shot your dog,” and walked off.

Terry Sumpter with the Detroit Pit Crew Rescue took Dollar Bill to Center Line Veterinary Hospital. The bullet passed through Dollar Bill’s leg and he will be OK.

Dollar Bill is back with his owner and police are looking for the gunman.
